Koh Samui and its surrounding area offer a wealth of opportunities for day trips and excursions. From beaches to cultural attractions to island hopping, our “In the Know” Concierge Team will help you discover the very best this idyllic area has to offer.

Long stretches of palm-lined, powdery soft beaches are one of the main attractions of Koh Samui itself. Chaweng and Lamai are the most famous beaches on the island, or for a quieter experience you can select Choengmon, Bo Phut, Meanam or Lipa Noi. The town of Chaweng is the center of Samui’s shopping, dining and nightlife scene, while charming walking areas such as Fisherman’s Village in Bo Phut offer a blend of local charm and modern conveniences.

Other attractions include the beautiful Namuang Waterfall, fascinating temples, a treetop tour cable ride, elephant trekking, a 12 meter ‘Big Buddha’, great seafood, shopping and even buffalo fighting(although of a much calmer variety than that found in Spain.)

Beyond Koh Samui, a visit to Ang Thong National Marine Park is one of the area’s true highlights. Consisting of 42 islands of varying size, it is characterized by dramatic limestone massifs, hidden coves, tropical rainforests and deserted beaches.

Particularly worth a visit is Koh Mae (‘Mother Island’) with its beautiful beaches and emerald saltwater lake, and Koh Sam Sao (‘Tripod Island’), which has an extensive coral reef and an incredible viewpoint overlooking the entire archipelago. The marine park is also home to a diverse array of wildlife, including the Asian long tailed monkey, Hair-nosed Otters, Pacific Reef Egrets, White-bellied Sea Eagles, Ashy Drongo birds, tortoises and sea turtles.

Other islands worth visiting, outside of the marine park, include Koh Tao, home to some of the best diving in Thailand due to its exceptionally clear water and diverse underwater life. The island – and its smaller neighbor Koh Nang Yuan – are also perfect for snorkelers, who can step straight off the beach into an incredible underwater world. Koh Phangan is also worth a visit for its stunning beaches and abundance of flora and fauna – and, in the evening, its famous full moon parties.

Marine Excursions

Ideal for cruising the secluded islands in style, the luxurious InterContinental® Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort offers its signature speedboat for guest’s rental.

Meet the Dolphins (featured excursion)

Our very special neighbors at Intercontinental® Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort are the famous pink dolphins, a subspecies of the Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin. The Resort’s private speedboat will take you directly to some of the dolphins’ favorite spots off of the coast of Khanom on the Thai mainland. Here you’ll be able to feed them directly from the boat as they surface and frolic with their playful cousins, the Irrawaddy dolphins. Both types of dolphins are extremely rare and facing conservation threats. After your trip to meet the dolphins, you’ll head to Koh Tan Island for some fantastic snorkeling among massive coral reef formations.
