In Thailand, a common greeting is “Have you eaten yet?” – a sign of how important food is to the Thai way of life. Sum rap thai, or “the way Thais eat” is a complex and joyful expression of taste, visual presentation and balance over the course of a meal.
Your stay at InterContinental® Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort is the perfect opportunity to get a hands-on experience with Thai cooking led by Master Chef Tao.
Your lesson begins with a guided visit to the local Si Fah morning market, where you’ll have a chance to pick out fresh ingredients for your day’s class. Enjoy the buzz of activity and explore the various stalls selling fresh fruits and vegetables, spices, prepared foods and more as our chef gives you a tour and answers any questions you might have.
You’ll stop in at the fish market to check on the freshest catch of the day, such as tiger prawns, Phuket lobsters, barracuda and white snapper. See fresh coconut milk – a staple of Southern curries – being made and pick some up for your own recipes. If you’ve worked up an appetite, sample some delicious dishes at the market, such as Kaeng Som sour curry soup.
Upon your return to Amber, you’ll be given a signature InterContinental® apron and learn how to make classic dishes such as Tom Yum Goong, Pad Thai, and Penang Curry. You’ll receive recipe cards and cooking notes for easy step-by-step reference. Afterwards, enjoy the delicious fruits of your labor with a sit-down lunch.
Group cooking classes are also available for any occasion including a birthday party or corporate event. Group classes are available for up to 8 people.
